Catfish and the Bottlemen | Glasgow Summer Sessions

No, not one, but two Summers Sessions posts for you! Yes, I went back for another go at it, after seeing Kings of Leon on the first day. There are actually three days of the Summer Sessions, but I won't be attending the third (headlined by Kendrick Lamar). Day two was the one I was most excited about though, as I really enjoy Catfish and the Bottlemen, who I hadn't seen live before, and the main support act was Twin Atlantic, one of my all-time favourites, and who are exceptionally good when performing in Glasgow, their home town.

Outfit - Strangers Like Me

Can you tell who this outfit was inspired by? I've gone for a more modern take on one of Jane Porter's outfits from 'Tarzan', the white top and red skirt combo she wears out in the jungle. My skirt is the right colour, but obviously shorter than hers, and I chose this white crop top for a summery look, wearable in jungle heat! It has been chilly in Scotland though, hence the tights, and while she is normally barefoot with this outfit, I added brown boots, good for the current weather here and to match the explorer vibe. The elephant necklace was a nod to Tantor, and the wooden earrings look like something jungle related. I kept the makeup natural (where would you find any in the jungle?), and pulled my hair into a half ponytail, similar to hers, and grabbed this leather bound notebook for some shots, like her sketchbook.

Kings of Leon | Glasgow Summer Sessions

A day outside in the park, beer in hand, the smell of food trucks drifting through the air, and a stellar line up of live music on the stage in front. Add some bracing northern winds, and a lot of people wearing wellies and rain jackets, getting progressively drunker as night falls, throwing beer around and chanting "here we fucking go", and that's a music festival in Scotland. Oh, and of course, there's always the obligatory Scottish flag being waved around by someone in the crowd!

Travel Inspiration | Thailand

Lately, all my Facebook memories keep directing me to photos from Thailand, as I was there this time last year exploring the southern part of the country, and the year before up in the north. So, it seems like a good time to put together my 'Travel Inspiration' post for the country, with some of my favourite images from my trips there. Thailand has a lot to see and do - most people will associate it with beaches, islands, and turquoise waters, but there's plenty of jungles, temples, and cities to see as well. Tourism in Thailand has been a tricky one over the years, with beaches covered in plastic waste, and elephants mistreated for the sake of letting people ride them, so it was still apparent which places have been damaged by excessive tourism. I tried to be conscious about minimising my impact during my time there, and was lucky enough to see some areas that were much better preserved.

Outfit - The Second Star to the Right

Channelling some playful, childlike vibes today, for an outfit inspired by the boy who wouldn't grow up, Peter Pan - I've already done Tinkerbell and Captain Hook too! Obviously green was the colour of choice for this, and this dress was a fairly recent purchase earlier this summer - off the shoulder is a different style for me, but I've got a few pieces featuring it this year! I added the brown belt from a different dress, since he also has one, and brown boots were the closest match to his as well. Green tights might have been overkill, so black seemed safer. I picked these feather earrings, to echo the feather in his cap, and to suit the wild nature of him and the Lost Boys. The wood and leather bracelet and leaf ring also have similar forest vibes. I braided my hair for a youthful effect, and chose fairly natural makeup, with brown tones for the eyeshadow and a playful pink lip.

The Noise Next Door | Edinburgh Fringe 2018

I've seen The Noise Next Door at the Fringe multiple times in the past, though since I've been living abroad, it's been a few years, but theirs is a show I always want to go back to year after year. They're an improv group, who do short sketches and songs based off of audience suggestions, which usually result in bizarre and crazy scenarios, but a lot of fun to watch the madness unfold. Their lineup has changed since I last saw them, with two original member departing, and a new addition having joined, so I was curious to see what effect that would have!

Musically Inspired - Save Yourself

How can we help each other if we're broken ourselves? If we rely on someone else for our happiness, what happens when that person is gone? When should we be selfless, and when is it ok to be a bit selfish?

Outfit - How Far I'll Go

It's been a while since my last outfit post! Life has just been busy, and I've had other posts I wanted to write in between. Back at it now though, featuring one of my favourite Disney 'princesses', Moana (daughter of the chief, so not technically a princess). I went with the island girl theme for this, channelling some summery vibes with the sandals and the flower clip in my hair. The bright red top is fun and vibrant, albeit less patterned than hers, and I don't have any sort of brown skirt or bottoms, so the white skirt was the closest, and matches the long and loose style of hers. I chose this blue stone necklace, similar to hers, with matching blue earrings to tie in, and both of which remind me of the ocean, which she is so linked to. Finally, I let my hair dry in braids for the waves, and chose light, earth toned makeup for a fairly natural look.

Shit Faced Showtime | Edinburgh Fringe 2018

The Fringe is back and I'm back in Edinburgh for it, first time in a couple of years I've actually been here! Working as a tour guide on the Royal Mile can be a bit stressful when it's so busy, but I'm trying to make the most of the festival as well, and see as many shows as I can. I saw Shit Faced Shakespeare a couple of years ago, and this year the same company have done a sort of spin off, in the form of Shit Faced Showtime, doing the musical 'Oliver Twist'. The concept of the show is simple; they perform 'Oliver Twist', only one cast member is completely and utterly shit faced!

Deaf Havana - Rituals Release Show

Time for some live music! Last week Deaf Havana released their new album, 'Rituals', and did a couple of release shows for it, one of which was in Glasgow, so I went along. I knew it was going to be a small, stripped back show, quite different from the usual tours I've seen them on in the past, but I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from it. I ended up being delighted I went though!

Stonehaven Day Trip | Scotland

The other day I wrote the first post about my trip to Dundee a couple of weeks ago, involving a stop in St Andrews on the first day. I was visiting my cousin, who will tell you firsthand that there isn't loads of things to see and do in Dundee itself (though we did wander round town to see some of the main sights, like the Tay Railway Bridge and McManus Galleries). However, for the other full day I had there, we decided to get out of the city again, and take another day trip, this time even further north, to the town of Stonehaven, and the nearby Dunnottar Castle.

St Andrews Day Trip | Scotland

Firstly, I'm very annoyed at myself for the blogging absence over the last week or so. I've just started a new job (yes, again!), still as a tour guide, but working a lot more, so I've just been busy and tired. However, I am going to find the motivation to get back into writing more again. Anyways, before I started that job, I had a couple of days off so I actually went out of Edinburgh for a few days - as anyone who follows me on Instagram may have spotted. I was mainly in Dundee, visiting my cousin, but on the way up, I actually stopped off in St Andrews for most of the first day, the little beach town on the north east coast of Fife.
