Royal Highland Show | Scotland

It's been a few years since I've been to the Highland Show - mainly because I've been travelling, or living outside the country! - but I finally went again last week. For anyone unfamiliar with what the Highland Show is, it's basically a huge agricultural show. I come from a farming background, and although I have no interest in making that my career, I still get excited about things like the Highland Show, and this year I was going with my family. However, even if you have nothing do to with agriculture yourself, the Highland Show is still a great day out, with something for everyone, including the food hall, craft tents, beer gardens, and plenty of animal displays and competitions to see. It runs for four days over a weekend in June. If you want to see any specific competitions, you have to make sure you go on the right day, but for just browsing, it doesn't make a big difference when you go.

Outfit - All in the Golden Afternoon

So today's outfit was inspired by Alice herself, from the film 'Alice in Wonderland' (1951, not the more recent remake). I inverted Alice's look, by wearing this blue denim dress with a white t-shirt underneath, instead of something on top like her apron. Normally I wear this dress alone, but I thought the top was more her style, to cover the cut-out in the middle. Black ballet flats were the obvious footwear choice, and I didn't have a black bow or anything for my hair, but I thought a half ponytail was her sort of style. The teapot earrings were an easy choice, as a nod to the Mad Hatter's tea party, and I decided on this tree of life necklace, as most of her adventures take place in a woodland setting. Finally, I kept my makeup very light and natural, since she is so youthful and innocent.

Top 5 Asian Travel Experiences

A few months ago, I shared my five favourite Asian cities that I visited during my time living over there, and then I shared my five favourite experiences while travelling Central America. While exploring Asia, I also had many experiences out in the natural world, in rural locations and such, away from those big, bustling, cosmopolitan cities, so we're combining both of those previous posts to list my five favourite experiences from around Asia!

Edinburgh Pride 2018

Happy Pride Month! So, last Saturday was Edinburgh's Pride Parade day, and I went along for the first time. I don't identify as LGBT+, but I was going with a friend who does, and I'd consider myself an ally of the community, so I wanted to go to show support. The beautiful thing about this community is how inclusive it is of everyone, so it doesn't matter how you identify, you can still join in and feel a part of it all. We were amazed with how big the event was too, with the parade filling up almost the whole of the Royal Mile, and every sort of person seemed to be represented.

Outfit - Friends On The Other Side

Villains suit my usual colour palette so well, it's very easy for me to put together outfits in shades of purple and black! Anyway, this week I've been inspired by Dr Facilier, the voodoo doctor villain from 'The Princess and the Frog'. The black jeans paired with this purple top were easy choices, and I like the little embellishments on the top, for some added interest (sort of hidden by my hair though!). The black jacket also gives it a slightly more formal effect, like his jacket. In an ideal world, I'd have a top hat and black and white shoes like his, but the fun part of Disneybounding is putting your own twist in things - it doesn't have to be their outfit exactly! So I picked out my black beanie and purple boots, to match the colour palette, but with a more casual style, more like my own. I put in sugar skull earrings, and ideally would have worn this necklace, but it's back at my parents', so I chose the black pocket watch to match the overall vibe, and loaded up on silver rings for a similarly villainous vibe. Finally, purple eyeshadow and lipstick matched the colour scheme, and is as dramatic as villains tend to be!

Explore the Options | Musically Inspired

Life is full of so many choices. Your path is like a labyrinth, with each twist and turn and decision leading you down another path, away from one thing and towards another. There are so many possibilities, so many options, each one leading to different results. But when you make one choice, what happens to all the other options and outcomes?

Cramond Island | Edinburgh

There's so many parts of Edinburgh I still haven't really explored yet, which is shocking when I've lived here for so long (albeit spread out over the years). So, with the beautiful sunny weather we've had lately, I had to seize the opportunity to go adventuring on one of my days off last week. I decided to get out of the city centre and head to the coast, the sea being somewhere I am often drawn towards; specifically, I went to Cramond Island, in the north west of the city. This is an uninhabited island, off the coast of Cramond Village, which can be reached by a causeway that emerges from the sea at low tide - don't stay too long and get stranded, or the lifeboat has to come fetch you back to the mainland!

Outfit - A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes

The most classic of princesses for this week's outfit - Cinderella of course! Did anyone guess correct? This was an interesting one to put together, as most of the blue items in my wardrobe were too dark for her look. The top was an easy choice, for its colour, then I ended up going with a white skirt instead, for that light, floaty princess vibe. And it's even warmer enough in Scotland now to forgo tights most days! I chose all the jewellery for their pale blue tones as well, and tried to stick with small, delicate pieces for the most part (ignore the nail polish, it was left over from the weekend, doesn't really match the rest of the look!). I don't have any glass slippers of course, so I just went with these nude flats, which match the simple, delicate style of this whole thing. I didn't want the bun to look too harsh - which I think it kind of did pulled high in my Tinkerbell outfit - so I ended up doing a low, loose bun instead, and finished up with classic princess makeup, of shimmery eyeshadow and a pink lip.

Summer Drinks Menu

So, most regular readers will have spotted that my blog doesn't ever contain recipes or many food related posts at all. The reason is simple - I'm a terrible cook. I cook to eat to survive, not for pleasure or anything else like that. But, I was looking for new post ideas and a friend suggested summer drinks, and seeing as I'm a borderline alcoholic (that's a joke, for anyone who may now be concerned about my alcohol consumption levels!), I thought this was a food related post I could manage! We've had so much sunny weather in Edinburgh lately, that all most of us want to do is lounge around outside, having a few drinks. Summer drinks, to me, should be cold and refreshing, above everything else, and I often go for light, fruity options too. Anyways, I've searched the internet for some recipes (linked for credit) and ideas, and compiled a list of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options (credit to Tasha and Bridget for the ideas)!

Top Five TV Shows of 2017-2018

For the last few years, I've picked my favourite TV shows of the year at around this time of year, as it's when many shows (particularly American shows) conclude their season. However, that doesn't mean every show on my list is in the 22-24 episode format - this year I've actually found most of my choices are shorter run series, or were released all at once on Netflix, rather than weekly. That wasn't a conscious choice, just something I noticed later on, but maybe it's because shorter runs don't have 'filler' episodes, and I'm less likely to bored halfway through, as they manage to tell a succinct, complete story in the time they have. Maybe! Anyways, here are my favourites from this year, in no particular order, and my reasons why (mild spoilers ahead if you haven't watched earlier seasons!).
