Travel Inspiration – Florence, Italy

Florence – known as Firenze in Italian – may not be the most famous or popular of Italy’s cities, in a country that boasts Rome and Venice, but it’s certainly still one of the most beautiful. Europe is bursting with incredible architecture, and Florence is home to some of the best, with pretty and intricately decorated buildings around every corner. It’s not a very big city, and the two night I spent here seemed to be ample time to see the main sights around its central area. Some people may bemoan the lack of things to do here, certainly compared to the likes of Rome, but it would be a very pleasant place to spend a few days relaxing and doing not very much. (Sidenote: I wish I could go back around many places in Europe with my new, much better camera than the one I had at the time!)

The Duomo Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is the heart of Florence, and its most famous sight. The detail on its exterior is stunningly intricate, and the huge red dome dominates Florence’s skyline.

Ok, so the last two shots aren’t strictly Florence, but on the drive there we stopped off at Pisa to see that iconic Leaning Tower, and it’s not that far from Florence to do the same!
